McDonald's brings back breakfast 'icon' after more than 3 years (2024)

McDonald's has brought back a breakfast favourite after a gap of more than three years - and fans are delighted. One person told how he hung around two hours after his night shift ended to get his hands on the Breakfast Wrap as soon as it went on sale.

The fast food chain says it has brought it back after "prayers, pleads and petitions" from fans. They said: "After three years out of the limelight, your prayers, pleads and even petitions have been answered as McDonald's proudly announces the return of a proper morning icon – The Breakfast Wrap, back for a nationwide tour across the UK&I.

"So, say goodbye to breakfast blues and get ready to queue for the ultimate breakfast morning comeback."

The new Breakfast Wrap will set you back £4.39 and according to the firm it includes a "delicious pork sausage patty, two round free-range eggs, a slice of bacon, a crispy potato rosti and cheese served in a tortilla wrap with either tomato ketchup or brown sauce". It added: "Whether you're a loyal fan or a Breakfast Wrap newbie, the time has come to savour every bite and experience breakfast like never before."

Elliott Webb took to Facebook to say how he was so keen to get his hands on one that he waited two hours after finishing work. He wrote: "After four very long years, it's finally back.

"The McDonald's Breakfast Wrap has returned to the menu after being removed waaaay back in 2020 (thanks COVID-19 ), and after working a night shift that started at 2:49pm yesterday and finished at 3:01am today, I kicked about for two hours whilst waiting for 5:00am to come around, mulling over my life decisions that seemingly led to me pulling an all nighter (instead of going home to bed after work) just for a breakfast wrap, and headed on down to McDonald's at Tothill Services, to be the very first paying customer of this momentous day to get my hands back on this almighty food offering.

"Absolutely worth it, proper scran, 2024 is made 100%. And obviously, it has to be brown sauce, not red."

The wrap is not the only new thing on the menu. The fast food firm has joined forces with Frank’s RedHot to switch up the McSpicy® game and create the "hottest drop of the year" – The McSpicy® x Frank’s RedHot® (RRP £5.59).

It said the burger features "a hot and spicy 100% chicken breast fillet in a crispy coating, served with lettuce, Emmental cheese, jalapenos, onions, and a deliciously unique Frank’s RedHot Mayo – all in a sesame seed bun, this burger has a kick and a taste sensation that will blow your mind".

The Big Tasty is also coming back in February with McDonald's telling customers: "Fans will see the triumphant return of the Big Tasty, plus an irresistible option for bacon enthusiasts - the Big Tasty with Bacon! Brace yourself for a burst of indulgence in every bite with the Big Tasty. Featuring a 100% beef patty, cheese made with Emmental, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and a unique smoky flavoured sauce all nested in a toasted bun.

"For those with an appetite for bacon brilliance, take the taste experience further with the Big Tasty with Bacon. A 100% beef patty, with bacon, cheese made with Emmental, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and a unique smoky flavoured sauce."

Sides of Mozzarella Dippers with Salsa Dip are also back on the menu. These come in both individual and sharing portions.

And for dessert lovers McDonald's UK & Ireland has unveiled two new pink-themed hot and cold desserts- Raspberry and White Chocolate Pie and KitKat® Ruby Chocolate McFlurry® plus the Nestlé classic - KitKat® Milk Chocolate McFlurry®.

The KitKat® Ruby Chocolate McFlurry® is a soft dairy ice cream swirled with Ruby Chocolate covered KitKat® pieces and wafer bites, topped with a pink raspberry sauce. The classic KitKat® Milk Chocolate McFlurry® is a combination of soft dairy ice cream swirled with Milk chocolate-covered KitKat® pieces and wafer bites then topped with chocolate sauce.

Or for those wanting something other than ice cream, there is the Raspberry and White Chocolate Pie. The firm describes it as: "A crispy pink pastry filled with a smooth white chocolate ganache and a delightful raspberry compote. The complementary textures and flavours create a perfect balance, making each bite a heavenly journey of pink sweetness."
