hey, i got this crazy idea when i was looking at these gignatic jars and i wanted to run it by some expert/experienced people like you guys before trying it. i was wondering if its possible to fruit mushrooms in the same jar as you innoculate them. as crazy as it sounds, imagine this... if i had a very large jar, fill about 1/4 to 1/2 of it with the vermiculite/water/BRF mix used in the PF tek, with a small (between 1 cm and 1 inch) layer of dry vermiculite on top. (Pretty much the basic PF tek setup but with extra room on top. if i innoculated these jars, and left them, would the mushrooms be able to grow in the extra space, or does something important happen when you take cakes out of the jar and put them in a casing/fruiting chamber/whatever? i think if this idea would work, all i'd have to do is figure out how to innoculate it. if you have corrections/suggestions/verifica thanks for the help! --------------------

Sounds like your describing an invitro tek, but with room for full sized shrooms. Try it, and try one with filling the whole jar up and innoculating. Look up Invitro Teks, those would help you out. Oh and to answer your question, it would definatly work. But normally, invitro is filling the whole jar up

sorry to be posting so much on my own thread... but would blue meanies and/or malabars do well in this environment? and also, do you know if letting the jar have some empty space (leaving it half full so shrooms can grow straight up) would have any good/bad effects on the growth? again, thanks for all the help --------------------

You can fruit the substrate in the jars by casing the top (should be moistened like any casing) running through, and fruiting. The trick is to not let the casing dry out (putting it in an appropriately sized bag works fine, unless you want to control the ambient rH elsehow.) -- --------------------
