As the weather cools, ladybugs, specifically the Asian Lady Beetle, are drawn to light-colored surfaces like houses. These beetles, originally from Asia, were brought to the U.S. for pest control, targeting soft-bodied critters like aphids that damage fruit and nuts. While they are generally harmless, their presence can be a nuisance.
Ladybug swarms, or aggregations, occur in the fall as they seek shelter to overwinter and regulate body temperature. However, if they find their way inside, they might leave stains or an odor if they die. Some people also report being 'nipped' by the beetles, although they cannot sting or vector diseases.
